As opposed to the common perception there is not just a single satan. The holy Quran mentions about the existence of a huge number of satans. The most powerful of all the satans is the Iblis. The rest of the satans are under his hegemony. Iblis is also known as the babahe satan.
The satans also have a hierarchy in which the king has an army of about 30,000-70,000 satans under his control. There is a mention of the satan’s army in the holy Quran in verse no.95, chapter 26.
وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ (26:95)
26:95 (Y. Ali) "And the whole hosts of Iblis together.
The satans function in groups also in which there is one leader and innumerable number of satans working under him. There is solidarity amongst the satans and they work in unison. If occasion arises they do not hesitate to sacrifice their lives to help their group members. Amongst these satans there are amil-kamil black magicians and those satans who are capable of performing the most powerful and dangerous magic spells. There is a mention about such satanic groups in several places in the holy Quran such as chapter no.58, verse 19.
اسْتَحْوَذَ عَلَيْهِمُ الشَّيْطَانُ فَأَنسَاهُمْ ذِكْرَ اللَّهِ أُوْلَئِكَ حِزْبُ الشَّيْطَانِ أَلَا إِنَّ حِزْبَ الشَّيْطَانِ هُمُ الْخَاسِرُونَ (58:19)
58:19 (Y. Ali) The Evil One has got the better of them: so he has made them lose the remembrance of Allah. They are the Party of the Evil One. Truly, it is the Party of the Evil One that will perish!
Besides having formed huge armies and groups the satans also have a tribe/ sardari system. The satans have formed numerous tribes which comprise of a huge number of satans. The most powerful satan in a tribe is called the leader or sardar of that tribe. Such satanic tribal leaders have around 800-1200 billion forces at their command.
The Surah Al-Anaam, verse no. 123 of the Quran mentions about such satanic tribes.
وَكَذَلِكَ جَعَلْنَا فِي كُلِّ قَرْيَةٍ أَكَابِرَ مُجَرِمِيهَا لِيَمْكُرُواْ فِيهَا وَمَا يَمْكُرُونَ إِلاَّ بِأَنفُسِهِمْ وَمَا يَشْعُرُونَ (6:123)
6:123 (Y. Ali) Thus have We placed leaders in every town, its wicked men, to plot (and burrow) therein: but they only plot against their own souls, and they perceive it not.
